Experience in Structural Engineering
 
Prior to starting up a structural engineering consultancy in Cornwall: Richard Gowan Consulting Limited, Richard spent 11 years working post graduation in two large but very different structural engineering practices in London. Richard moved to Cornwall in 2010 where he joined Truro based consulting engineering practice, MBA Consulting.

ALAN BAXTER & ASSOCIATES, LONDON
 
Richard began his career at Alan Baxter & Associates in London where he was fortunate to work on a wide variety of engineering projects with sensitive refurbishment of existing and historic buildings playing a significant part in his early career. At ABA, Richard was responsible for projects including various complex refurbishments of historical buildings in the capital including at the Palace of Westminster and retail units on Regent Street and Bond Street for The Crown Estate and Asprey respectively.
 
 
MEINHARDT UK, LONDON
 
After 7 years at ABA, Richard moved to Meinhardt UK and was brought straight away firmly into the here and now playing a key role in the design of two new airports in Cyprus; where he was based on site with the Contractor and Design Team overseeing the detailing of the structure. A number of high profile residential and commercial buildings followed this including both small and large apartment buildings and high end hotels, most of which are dotted along the banks of the Thames.
 
 
MBA CONSULTING, TRURO
 
At MBA Consulting, Richard continued to build on his structural engineering experience in designing exciting residential structures; including a number of high end private dwellings along the banks of the creeks around Restronguet and a multi apartment building overlooking the beautiful Carbis Bay. Richard continued his hotel design work most recently co-ordinating the structural engineering design of a host of alterations and extensions to both St Ives Harbour Hotel (The Porthminster) and Salcombe Harbour Hotel in Devon. Outside the world of structural design, Richard has carried out a number of Visual Appraisals of existing structures most typically following the recommendation by a surveyor during a purchase of a property.
